The Rare Cancers Bil is a potential law which will reach its final stages in the House of Commons on 11th July. It is the second Private Members Bill on the order paper.
If it becomes law, it has the potential to improve survival rates for pancreatic cancer and other cancers that have been left behind.
While pancreatic cancer is a more common cancer, it is considered a rare disease because around 1 in 6,000 people in the UK are living with pancreatic cancer. This means it is covered by this Bill, which focusses on cancers which affect fewer than 1 in 2,000 people.
We have long campaigned for more investment in research for pancreatic cancer and the less survivable cancers. Now, we’re proud to be working closely with Dr Scott Arthur MP, who introduced the Bill, The Brain Tumour Charity, and other coalitions working on less survivable and rare cancers, to urge MPs to support this Bill to pass to the House of Lords.
